In this area, Language is presented as an avenue of exploration.
Children will have hands-on learning on pre-reading activities, how to trace letters, gradually starting the formation of three letter words
progressing to simple sentence formation to creative writing. They will develop their spoken language in a linguistically rich classroom
environment prepared by the guide.
The foundation of the mathematical mind is built by the exercises and the activities of practical life and sensorial materials. Math materials create a tactile experience for the child, as to touch and feel how the quantity of one unit, one ten, one hundred and one thousand looks like, which is a great vision from a child’s view. Children will learn the association of quantity to symbol and gradually start combining the quantities for
operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
In a Montessori environment, practical life work acts as a spine in
child’s overall development. When a child is engaged with practical
life work, she learns the art of living at a very young age as it fosters
independence, and establishes a sense of order, coordination, and
concentration. Practical life work helps the child to develop balance,
find his or her place in their environment.
Educating a child’s senses is important as it enables the child’s ability. Sensorial lessons create order and clarity from perceived
discrimination of size, color, tactile impressions, shapes, smell, taste
and sounds. It organizes the child’s thoughts and perceptions in a
systematic way, allowing further development of more formal and
structured learning. Sensorial materials are based on a logical learning sequence.
In the Montessori curriculum, the term “cosmic education “means it starts
with a whole and works towards the parts. It connects the children to
our planet Earth with which they are intertwined. The child learns and
understands with ease, the place where she lives and how the
basic elements of land, air, and water relate to her environment. Science
lessons (both indoor & outdoor) provide them an opportunity to
observe, discover, and explore. It allows them to be active independent
learners.
